5-Minute (Quick & Easy!) Website Check

It is crucial for any business looking to thrive online to make sure their online presence is in tip-top shape, and one of the best places to get started with that is your website. Once you’ve created your website, you can’t just set it and forget it. It’s a good idea to go back and refresh it regularly, adding new content, keeping it looking up-to-date, and expanding it to reflect new products and offerings.

Even if you don’t have time for a full review, you likely have five spare minutes to do a quick website check and clean-up. Here are a few small tasks you can tackle in just a few minutes!

✅ 🔍 Check Your Navigation Bar

Your navigation bar is the first place most visitors will click after they’ve landed on your home page. It doesn’t make for a very good first impression if there are broken links in there!

  • Do a quick click through all the links in your navigation bar – are they working? Do they send the visitor to the correct page?
  • If the content on the page has changed slightly, consider updating the wording in the navigation bar to better reflect what’s really on the page.

✅ 📝 Test Forms & Buttons

Forms and buttons are the keys to lead generation on your website. They’re tools to capture information about consumers and get them into your marketing funnel, so you want to be sure they’re set up for success.

  • Do a quick test of all your forms on your site. Make sure that they’re simple and easy to fill out, and that the submit function is working. Test this on mobile and desktop. You’ll also want to confirm that when the form is submitted online, you are being notified on your work email that you have a new form.
  • Click through all the buttons on your site to make sure they’re linking to the proper places.

✅ 📞 Confirm Your Contact Details

This is a 30-second fix that can make a world of difference for your online presence. Making sure your address, phone number, and business hours are all correct on your website is so crucial. Not only does it matter to your customers – who want to know when and where to find you – but Google takes it seriously as well.

  • Check to make sure that your contact information on your website matches what’s displayed on your Google My Business listing, Facebook business page and any other directories where your business might be listed.

✅ 📰 Do a Content Audit

Once you’ve ticked off all the items above, it’s time to go a little deeper with a content audit.

  • Read through all the pages on your site and look for information that might be outdated or missing.
  • If you’ve made changes to your product offerings, maybe you need to update the wording on your older products to further differentiate them from your newest additions.
  • If you have a blog that’s been lying dormant for a few months, it’s time to think about how you could refresh it with updated information.

Once you’ve done your audit and know where you stand, set aside time each month to update one page. Setting a small, manageable goal like fixing one page over the course of 30 days makes it even more likely that it will get done. Slow and steady wins the website updating race.

There are a lot of opportunities for quick wins and small fixes you can make to improve your website in just a few minutes. Plus, if you break down the task of a website update page by page, it suddenly goes from major project to easy task.
